Story of a ship-wrecked sailor

Author: Gabriel Garcia Marques

Category: Creative Non-Fiction

In the story of a shipwrecked sailor, Gabriel Garcia Marques takes us through the incredible journey of a 20 year old solder and his friends on their way back home.

Most of them being family men, they are laden with gifts for their wives and children and for some; this is their last journey as solders as they plan to retire from the job.
As fate would have it, the 20 year old survives a shipwreck and stays for days on end without food or water, the only thing that keeps him alive is his determination and will to live which proves stronger than the school of sharks that surround his raft everyday.

The hope of finding land is what renews his strength and rejuvenates a body that has gone for days without food or water defying the scientific notion about how long the human body can stay without food and water.
In the 106 pages mind gripping real life story, Garcia proves once more that he is a master storyteller as he takes us aboard the raft, through the scorching heat and salty fish smelling water.
The story’s ending proves the incredible power of the human will.
A must read for any reader worth their salt.
